In case you missed it (who am I kidding, nobody missed it) Gen 2 has finally been released, and with it came some new evolutions for many of the Pokemon that were already in the game. In total, there are 10 Pokemon that can be evolved (or evolved further) now that Gen 2 is here.
Some of these evolutions are fairly straightforward, and require nothing but a large amount of candy to perform. Others require some candy and an additional item, while the final few require candy and a bit of luck (or a special naming trick). These are all of the new Pokemon GO Gen 2 evolutions, and the items required to achieve them:
First on the list is Crobat, the final evolution of Zubat. This bad boy doesn’t need an evolution item to evolve, just 100 Zubat candies. My advice would be to do this evolution once for the Pokedex entry and then never bother again; your Zubat candy can be better spent evolving four Zubats into Golbats for the EXP.
Second on the list is Bellossom, the (split) evolution of Oddish and Gloom. This might be a bit of a tough one to evolve for some players, as you’ll need to gather 100 Oddish candies and a “Sun Stone”. The “Sun Stone” can be found as a random item drop at a Poke Stop.
Third on the list is Politoed, the (split) evolution of Poliwag and Poliwhirl. Just like with Bellossom, this cute frog requires both 100 Poliwag candies and a “King’s Rock” in order to evolve. The “King’s Rock” can also be found at a Poke Stop as a random item drop.
Next up is Slowking, the (split) evolution of Slowpoke. Since he is a second stage evolution (and not a third stage like Bellossom and Politoed), he only needs 50 Slowpoke candies and a “King’s Rock” to evolve. Same deal as above; the “King’s Rock” can be found at a Poke Stop as a random item drop.
Fifth on the list is Steelix, the evolution of Onix. It too is a second stage evolution, hence the requirement of only 50 candies and a “Metal Coat” for evolution. The “Metal Coat” can be obtained, like the other evolution items, from a Poke Stop as a random item drop.
Sixth on the list is Blissey, the adorable evolution of Chansey. In my opinion, this is the most generous evolution on the list, as it only requires 50 Chansey candies in order to evolve. This could change in the future when the baby “Happiny” is released, though, so be sure to evolve your Chansey sooner rather than later.
Seventh on the list is Kingdra, the final evolution of Horsea and Seadra. Following in Bellossom and Politoed’s footsteps, you will need 100 Horsea candies and a “Dragon Scale” to evolve this beast. Yet again, the evolution item “Dragon Scale” can be obtained from a Poke Stop as a random item drop.
Eight on the list is Scizor, the evolution of Scyther. As a second stage evolution, the candy requirement is lower; gather 50 Scyther candies and a “Metal Coat” and you’ll be able to evolve this metallic bug of death. You know the drill by this point, the evolution item “Metal Coat” is obtained from a Poke Stop.
Ninth and Tenth on this list are Umbreon and Espeon, who are two new evolutions of Eevee. In order to get yourself one (or both) of these new Pokemon, you’re going to need to gather 24 Eevee candies and a lot of luck, because the evolution process is random.
If, however, you don’t want to have to resort to luck… You can force your Eevee to evolve into an Umbreon by naming it “Tamao”, or an Espeon by naming it “Sakura”. This Eevee naming trick will only work once per name, and will then go back to being a 1/5 chance.
And last but not least, we have Porygon2, the evolution of Porygon. Catch yourself a Porygon, 50 Porygon candies, and an “Up-Grade”, and you’ll be all set to evolve. The “Up-Grade” is an evolution item, which means it is obtainable from a Poke Stop as a random item drop.
